So far I
consider my self very fortunate, having graduated Hempstead High School
in 2005, I am presently a Junior at Syracuse University . I am majoring
in Special Education and Anthropology with a minor in Biology. I work in
the Anthropology lab and have conducted field studies in Costa Rica as
well as doing student teaching. My research has focused on developing
species diversity indexes and linking this to the economic history of
deforestation. I occasionally work as a translator and tutor children
refugees from Sudan , Somalia and other regions of Africa .
This spring break I'll be heading to St Thomas in the U. S Virgin
Islands as part of an excavation of Magens' Bay followed by a trip to
Ghana , West Africa in the summer. In writing this blog, my
intention is try to reach my community. .....Hempstead is my home,
and if there is anything I could share with the students of Hempstead is
that we are worth so much more than what we are allowed to believe. I
want them to know that we must demand for ourselves a greater dream. We
must love to learn, we must work hard, struggle, and break away from
everything that keeps us down (excuses, circumstances, fears, etc.,
etc,). I have come to realize how important it is to help ourselves and
as hard as it is to face those sleepless nights we are strong people,
people that can defy the statistics.
Thanks to Mr. B. Coleman, Hempstead High School Teacher
David A. Paterson - Governor of New
York
Hempstead High School 1971
Graduate
David Paterson
attended Fulton School and then went onto Hempstead High School, where
he graduated in 1971. After graduating from Columbia University, he
returned to Hempstead, where he attended Hofstra University Law School,
earning his degree in 1983. The school itself was only a decade old, and
many black students there were among the first in their families to have
a chance at a professional career.
Elected to represent Harlem in the New York State Senate in 1985, David
Paterson has demanded and achieved change at every level, not simply by
what he stands for but by who he is. David A.
Paterson was elected New York’s lieutenant governor on November
7, 2006.

The photos were all from meetings
that I attended with Governor Spitzer when he came to SUNY-Oswego to
hold a forum on the Economic State of Upstate.
I am currently doing well, in my senior year at Oswego. I was recently
reelected in the all campus election for the Vice Presidency of the
Student Association. I won with 65.4 percent of the vote. I am also
working on some community service projects through a partnership our
student government has formed with the city of Oswego. The government
here is going great, we are doing some really progressive things such as
trying to get our campus greener and pay the members of our Legislative
Branch.
In terms of academic, I would like to say that coming here was a great
decision and that Hempstead High School prepared me very well for my
academic transition to college work and the demands that it presents.
Without dedicated individuals who have played a role in my academic
development I would probably not still be here today. I am truly
grateful for all of you at Hempstead High School who have had a positive
impact on my life thus far. Ms DeKranes, Mr. Jackson, Mrs. Sherwood,
Mrs. Topping, Mr. Amoroso, Ms. Pearsall, Coach Moore, Mrs. Batson, Mrs.
Stephen, Ms. Elder, Ms. Cotton, Dr. Hill, and Mr. Stroughn for providing
an environment conducive to learning and individual growth concurrently.

Clayton (Clay) Abrams Hempstead
High School 1955 Graduate
I was born in Hempstead, Long Island, NY to a middle class family in
1936. My father was a Plumber and my mother a house wife. I shared some
of the same interests as my father like Electronics an Amateur Radio. My
father built a "Spark Gap Radio" transmitter in the early 1900's and for
a while used the call sign "NA" (his initials). At an early age I
started to listen to Short Wave Radio and progressed to a point in 1954
where I passed a FCC Amateur Radio Exam in NYC and was issued a call
sign of K2CVJ. -
